THE NORTHEAST SAHAVAS GATHERING FOR MEHER BABA 2009

September 11,12 & 13th Camp Epworth High Falls NY

Jai Baba, greetings in Meher Baba's love,

The committee for the Northeast Sahavas Gathering for Meher Baba is writing to give an update as to the plans for the Gathering this year.

As we all know, the opportunity of having guests at the Gathering who have met Meher Baba lessens as the years pass. As we move forward, we will need more and more to have people share their own experiences and stories of their lives with Baba.

This year, besides having Naosherwan Anzar as our speaking guest and Adrienne Shamszad as our musical guest, we will also begin to explore various additions to the program that hopefully will allow more people to get involved and share their experiences.

PROGRAM IDEAS

We are encouraging anyone with ideas regarding additions to the Gathering programs and activities.to contact one of the organizers listed at the end of this letter.

Some of the ideas that have been discussed over the years and more recently are:

1) sharing of Baba stories by 5-6 people over an hour period ( chosen from those wishing to participate, with names taken from a hat if more than 5 -6 wish to participate.)

2) sharing of stories of the Mandali by 3-4 participants, with participants chosen by suggestions of others prior to Gathering.

3) Possible group discussion for an hour, centered around a Discourse, or some particular theme in Baba's writings, with a moderator assisting in keeping the ideas and discussion flowing.

SKITS and PLAYS

We are also hoping to encourage the writing and performance of short skits and plays, 5-15 minutes in length, to be interspersed in the program throughout the weekend. We hope this might provide an opportunity for people from different areas to get together and rehearse and enjoy each other's company, prior to performance at the Gathering.

SATURDAY NIGHT PROGRAM

We have in the past attempted to invite people local to the area for our Friday night program, but this year, on suggestion from Naosherwan, we hope to make that invitation for Saturday night, with a stronger outreach in the local area, and an evening more accessible to people perhaps not as familiar with Baba.

ECONOMIC TIMES

We are all aware of the stress many experience at this time due to the present economic situation and we continue to try to keep our prices down. We hope that with this early announcement, more people might be able to prepare and attend the Gathering this year.

The Northeast Sahavas Gathering for Meher Baba continues to try to provide a weekend each year where His lovers can meet and gather together, to share a little time away from the world, and dive into a deeper sahavas of His intimacy and love. We hope you may be able to join us.

Again, please contact us if you have any ideas or suggestions, or would like to become more involved in the planning committee.

FREE PSYCHOTHERAPY SESSIONS FOR DIFFICULT TIMES:

I would like to mention to you that beginning March 13th I will be offering a free teleconference group for people that recently lost their jobs. Please let me know if you are aware of any Baba lovers in our community that can benefit from this free service. You can review the notice that recently went out to various organizations informing them about these groups:

"As you might be aware, I have been a psychotherapist in New York in private practice for over 30 years. During these hard economic times the only skill I can offer is my ability to support and try to inspire people especially during periods of suffering and pain. So, I decided to offer free teleconferenced group sessions to people who recently lost their jobs, cannot afford to pay for therapy but can be helped through a few therapy sessions. If you know of someone that can benefit from such a group please let them know to contact me at koumidou@optonline.net

Each group will meet for 4 times on Fridays from 11am to 12pm and it will be limited to 4-6 participants. The focus of each meeting will be on sharing stories, expressing reactions, offering support and exchanging ideas. For the time being there are two groups scheduled as follows:

Group 1: March 13th, 20th, 27th and April 3rd

Group 2: May 15th, 29th, June 5th and 12th"bluelineflashing

The Alexander Technique is a form of movement education that addresses how the individual functions as a unified whole in relation to gravity and our environment. The teacher uses a highly sophisticated touch to help the student let go of harmful movement patterns by restoring the naturally dynamic relationship between head, neck and back. We work with simple everyday movements and also do work on a massage table. It's great for people who are dealing with chronic or recurrent pain, or for people who simply want to feel better and use their bodies and voices more freely and effectively. A recent article in the British Medical Journal concerning a controlled study with 579 participants shows that back pain improves as much as 85% with lessons in the Alexander Technique.

Lenita C. Silveira is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique with 13 years of experience teaching people from every walk of life and age. She trained in NY and London at the world reknowned Constructive Teaching Centre, the oldest AlexanderTechnique School. She is a teaching member of ATI (Alexander Technique International).
